Packaging
Well I was quite impressed with the packaging, I loved the wood box (at least I think its wood)
Installation
Well there was not information that came with it, so off to their homepage I go: http://www.ezflash.cn/indexe.asp which is extremely slow. So slow in fact that I have to search for a mirror (not listed on their site) to download the EZ3 Manager. So I got the zip file, there is no installation. I plug in the flash cart to the usb and my "found new hardware wizard comes up" Looking in the newly extracted zip low and behold is a folder labeled "driver_writr2" thats the ticket! Drivers all installed, flash cart plugged in, time to load up the software ... after selecting English for my language I get something like this:
My only issue with it after copying some roms is the fact that it did not tell me I had to flash the loader, which I did from the "System Config" menu. Mind you the installation zip comes with two quick start pictures, but its not obvious.
On cart OS
The cart also asked which language I want! After that I get these nice looking screens for browsing my cart.
You have a image viewer, txt viewer, Minefield game, and a teaching english game, which I don't really need. The 'help' is pretty basic. Just a reminder the loader does not take up space on the cart!
Load time?!
I was expecting a load time as this cart uses both NAND and NOR memory. I was pleasantly supprised with a load time of 10 seconds for 128mbit carts and 3 seconds for a 32mbit cart I tried. The loading screen is nice because it lets you know what percent you are at.
Save yourself!
Saving is done really well, on startup (or soft reset) the rom takes out the last image of its save ram and copies it to a sav file to load the next time that rom is loaded. Or thats what it is supposed to do, I am having some trouble saving right now though, will keep you posted.
It turns out that I 'overloaded' the cart makeing the saves corrupt! there is no msg saying your overloading so watch out!
Cheats
Well I didn't get to much into cheats, but there are a ton if you can read them, however they also have many for english roms, but the nonenglish cheat translations are more impressive as they go by the rom release number.
Compression
I could not get any cart to compress as advertised. However its not all that great, kinda like zipping a rom. Not something I was interested in!
